FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Dayton, OH, May 1, 2026:
The MMEC is proud to announce $44.5 million in Project Year 2 follow-on awards under the Department of War (DoW) Microelectronics Commons program, managed by NSTXL (National Security Technology Accelerator).
These follow-on awards build on the strong foundation established in Project Year 1, advancing critical prototype efforts and accelerating the transition of innovative microelectronics technologies into operational capabilities for the warfighter supporting national security and economic competitiveness.
As part of this continued investment, MMEC-supported projects span several high-impact technology areas:
- Wideband Multifunctional Software Defined Radio (WMSDR) – 5G/6G
- Co-packaged Reconfigurable Signal and Intelligence Architecture (CORSAIR) – Electromagnetic Warfare (EW)
- Center for Technology Transition and Rapid Prototyping of Infrared Detectors (CENTROID) – Electromagnetic Warfare (EW)
- GPU Unified Architecture for Resilient Defense (GUARD) – Secure Edge / IoT Computing
These projects exemplify the breadth of innovation being driven across the Microelectronics Commons ecosystem, addressing critical needs in advanced computing, communications, sensing, and secure processing.
“Project Year 2 follow-on awards represent a pivotal step in moving breakthrough concepts into deployable capabilities,” said Dr. Matt Casto, Chief Technology Officer of MMEC. “From low SWAP-C and reconfigurable hardware for spectrum sensing to resilient communications and advanced all weather imaging for protection and situational awareness, these efforts demonstrate how coordinated investment across the Commons is accelerating the delivery of mission-relevant technologies. MMEC is proud to help drive this collaboration through our No Excuses Roadmap, ensuring these innovations transition rapidly and effectively to the warfighter.”
Established under the CHIPS and Science Act, the Microelectronics Commons is a nationwide network of regional innovation hubs designed to strengthen U.S. leadership in microelectronics, expand domestic manufacturing and design capabilities, and foster collaboration across industry, academia, and government.
Through its role in the ecosystem, MMEC continues to enable access to critical infrastructure, digital engineering platforms, and collaborative partnerships that support rapid prototyping and scalable transition pathways.
